Parenting coach Faith Collins offers valuable advice on how to raise a child who is happy and confident, and more willing to say “yes” than “no.”

Parents with young children know that their child’s wishes don’t always comply with their own. In our busy adult worlds, we don’t have time for meltdowns when we’re rushing to work or are late for a meeting.   Impulsively, we might resort to bribing, threatening and punishing, but instinctively we know there must be a better way.

Collins arms parents with effective ways to steer defiance into agreement. She describes how to establish high expectations, while simultaneously being responsive to the child’s needs. Being responsive means responding quickly and positively. In turn, our responsive teaches them how to become responsive to us, and sets the groundwork for healthy relationships.

Defiance and meltdowns are the child’s way of saying “I don’t feel as connected to you right now as I’d like.” She gives parents a toolkit of responsive ways to connect with their child and turn that stubborn “no” into a “yes.”

Joyful Toddlers & Preschoolers helps parents build a mutually responsive relationship with their children for a happier life together.
